aufgefunden/ found first in: The Kurt H. Wolff personal papers, von/ by David Kettler, und gedruckt als/ printed as (1986-L-ger-2): "A play written by students and performed for Mannheim on the occasion of his departure from Heidelberg: »The clouds« or »Politics as Science«" = Appendix 2 in: Henk E.S. Woldring: Karl Mannheim. The Development of his Thought: Philosophy, Sociology and Social Ethics, With a detailed Biography, Assen & Maastricht/NED 1986: Van Gorcum, pp. 391-403 (see also/ erwähnt bei: Korte (1988), S. 109);

Recently the contribution to/ the collaboration of Norbert Elias to this text was questioned principally by the English editor of the NE "Early writings" (Richard Kilminster: 2006-T-eng-1) and therefore NOT included in the English translation of the corresponding chapter in the "Frühschriften" (2002-B-ger-1/ 2002-N-ger-12: the reason is that for him sufficient evidence exists that Norbert Elias was NOT AN AUTHOR of the written text of the play).

Nevertheless there is (to our opinion) strong additional evidence ( see esp. the recently (2005) uncovered Nina Rubinstein Papers) that Norbert Elias (as Karl Mannheim's principal assistent and most important contact person towards students in Heidelberg 1929-1930) was involved in this play as EDITOR & COORDINATOR, although he probably was not one of the direct & primary authors/ writers of the text of this play.

Der Brief bezieht sich auf die mit anfänglicher Betreuung von Elias und späterer Betreuung von Karl Mannheim 1930-1933 grundgelegte Dissertation Nina Rubinsteins, die erst 56 Jahre später erschien: "Die Emigration nach 1789: Ein Beitrag zur Soziologie der politischen Emigration." hg. und eingeleitet/ edited and with an introduction by: Dirk Raith, mit Beiträgen von/ with contributions by: Hanna Papanek and David Kettler; Graz/Wien: Nausner 2000 (Bibliothek sozialwissenschaftlicher Emigranten).

"Rubinstein had worked with both Elias and Mannheim in Heidelberg and Frankfurt and had finished up (her thesis on French emigration) in April 1933, when she and Mannheim both fled the country. She had a 1930 letter from Elias in her files, as well as numerous drafts with Mannheim ’s corrections."
